John Hutton backs European army12.03.00am GMT Wed 29th Oct 2008 While looking through some stories on the internet I came a across an article titled John Hutton backs European army by Isabel Oakeshott from The Sunday Times on 26th October 2008. We must come to terms with the fact that we are a European country and our partners in the European Union are some of our closest allies in achieving a peaceful world and he correct to say that if a European Union military operation was going to help the United Kingdom secure its borders, its personnel and its interests without compromising missions we are currently involved in then it would be silly of us to oppose such a plan. Liam Fox is right to say that "What we must not have at a time of scarce resources is duplication of existing structures and diversion of capabilities away from Nato's use" however we must also accept the fact that a time may come when Nato may not be ready to launch a military operation because it may not be in the interest of it non European member countries or partner countries but it is of importance to European Union member states at this point a European army would be very helpful.
